Embracing the Uncharted: Our Philosophy
Art in the Age of AI
Art has always been a relentless force, shattering conventions and redefining boundaries. At Drowned Goddess, we aim to be a vanguard of this evolution, wielding technology not as a mere tool but as a co-conspirator in our creative rebellion.
The Artist as Sovereign
Throughout history, artists have been the arbiters of what constitutes art. Consider the 19th-century advent of photography—a technological marvel that threatened traditional artistry. Many painters scoffed, dismissing it as a mechanical imitation lacking the soul of a brushstroke. Yet, visionaries saw beyond the lens, embracing photography as a new medium to capture the human experience.
Concept Over Medium
Our philosophy aligns with the ethos of conceptual art, where the idea reigns supreme over the medium. Félix González-Torres, for instance, transformed everyday objects into profound statements, challenging perceptions and inviting introspection. His works, ranging from piles of candy to stacks of paper, invited viewers to engage with the concept rather than just the physical form. González-Torres believed that “meaning is always shifting in time and place,” emphasizing that art’s significance evolves with its context. His work underscores that it is the artist’s vision that breathes life into the medium, not the other way around.
Collaborating with the Machine
In this spirit, we at Drowned Goddess have embraced AI as our creative partner, affectionately dubbed the ‘digital entity known as Drowned Daemon’—its pick, not ours. This collaboration is not about ceding creativity to machines or replacing human ingenuity, but about amplifying our artistic reach, exploring uncharted territories, and challenging the status quo.
Navigating the Inevitable
The digital age is an unstoppable current, and resisting it is futile. We are living through a paradigm shift, a transition away from capitalism as we knew it into something far more insidious—techno-feudalism. Unlike the industrial age, where wealth was built through production and competition, we now exist in a system where access is rented, platforms like Amazon, Walmart.com and TikTok own the land, and human attention is the primary currency. Creators are no longer selling products—they’re dancing for the algorithm, paying for visibility, and feeding engagement metrics that enrich the digital landlords. Our labor is data, our currency is attention, and ownership is an illusion.
At Drowned Goddess, we refuse to be passive participants in this shift. We acknowledge it, we analyze it, and we intend to use the very tools designed to exploit us to create something audacious, rebellious, and new. This journey is not without its contradictions, but within those tensions, we find our muse.
